Launched in November 2000, the Freelance Alliance provides affordable professional development and support to independent communicators in the North Texas region. The group sponsors “brown bag lunch” presentations, organizes networking happy hours and distributes project and permanent job leads.
Open to sole practitioners, freelancers and other independent communications contractors throughout the North Texas region, the Freelance Alliance is organized by representatives of the Dallas chapters of The Association for Women in Communications (www.awcdallas.com), International Association of Business Communicators (www.dallasiabc.com) and the Public Relations Society of America (www.prsadallas.com).
Continuing Education
The “brown bag lunch” presentations, held every other month, are the ultimate for multi-tasking professionals! Attendees are encouraged to bring a lunch and drink to enjoy while listening and learning from a variety of experts who provide tips on making the most of being a freelance communicator. Free to members of the AWC, IABC and PRSA and only $10 for non-members or guests. In addition to the presentation, there are often opportunities for promoting services. Each “brown bag lunch” is from noon-1 p.m. at the North Dallas Chamber of Commerce, 10707 Preston Road, just south of Royal Lane behind the Guaranty Bank (turn west onto Park Village).
Networking
Every other month, the Freelance Alliance sponsors happy hours at local restaurants and bars for networking, building friendships or sharing ideas. Often, the happy hours will feature informal topics for discussion such as business development techniques or overcoming challenges, and, like the lunch events, provides an opportunity to promote services.
Career Opportunities
The Freelance Alliance is a valuable resource for prospective employers looking to hire independent communicators for temporary projects or permanent, full-time positions. Job leads are regularly distributed to individuals on the e-mail list.
